The Mexican composer Jacques Zafra completed his post-graduate degree (Meisterklasse) in composition under Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf at the University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig at the end of 2017. He is the founder of “Mexican Scores”, which publishes video scores by contemporary Mexican composers.
His music has been performed in Germany (at the Darmstadt Summer Course and the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, among others), Mexico, Portugal, USA, Switzerland and the Czech Republic and has been broadcast in Mexico, Germany, Hungary, Switzerland and Croatia. His piece for alto recorder won second place at the 2016 “New Recorder Music” Competition in Switzerland.
In 2012, his piece “Xochitepec desde mi cuarto” was chosen to represent Mexico at UNESCO’s IRC in Sweden. He has been awarded scholarships in Mexico and Germany.
